The problem of course is that a search on the internet for money making ideas turns up thousands of offers, most of which at best don’t work, or at worst are just scams aimed at parting the desperate with their hard earned money.
The good news is that you don’t have to pay to earn money online. In fact some of the best methods are free, you just need to know how. Affiliate marketing and sales is one of these great free methods.
So what is affiliate marketing and sales?
An affiliate is someone who markets and sells other peoples’ products and takes a commission for doing so. Commissions usually range from 25% to 75%. Products can be anything from a few dollars to thousands of dollars.
Many companies, including some of the world’s great brands have affiliate programs, just visit their websites and look for a link for ‘affiliates’, ‘resellers’ or ‘partners’. Sign up and you’re ready to go.
Probably the easiest way to do this for beginners is to join one of the big affiliate programs such as Clickbank. Clickbank is a marketplace where sellers and affiliates come together. The sellers advertise their products there, the resellers pick a product or products then try to sell them.
You don’t need your own website to sell these products either. In fact unless your website has a lot of visitors you would be at a disadvantage. You’re much better off marketing these products in high traffic websites such as an article site such as this one.
This is how it works. First go to Clickbank and join. Then browse the product categories and choose one with a track record of sales. You can identify these by the ‘gravity’ index afforded to them. The higher the gravity the more sales a product is getting.
Choose a product with a gravity of between 100 and 150. It would be best to avoid products with a gravity of over 150 as these would also attract a lot of competition from other affiliates.
Next get yourself a ‘hoplink’ to that product. A hoplink is a link to the product sales page with your unique affiliate identifier. You are given your unique affiliate identifier when you join. This enables Clickbank to know who to pay the sales commission to.
Next you need to market that product. The best way is to use pay-per-click advertising, however this does cost and unless you know what your doing you could end up spending more than you make. The free alternative it to write an article or articles about the product and post the articles on article websites such as this one.
The beauty about article websites is that they already enjoy good traffic and are crawled frequently by the search engines. If you choose the words within your article carefully, by using the search terms people use when searching for that product then it is likely your article will come up in a search and drive that searcher to your article and then hopefully on to the sales page through your hoplink.
